IV Diploma Rotarios Ilustres 2025/inglés

The local section of the Union of Spanish Radio Amateurs of Cádiz, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Jerez Internacional, will carry out a special radio activity consisting of the activation of the special callsign AO7POLIO to publicize the INTERNATIONAL DAY TO FIGHT AGAINST POLIO, which is celebrated every year. On October 24 of each year. Under the motto END POLIO NOW that day around the world, Rotarians do all kinds of activities to give visibility to the fight that Rotary and its allies (WHO, UNICEF, CDC, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) maintain. Against this cruel disease that mainly affects minor children. Polio is not completely eradicated as it is still endemic in Pakistan and Afghanistan and poses a danger to the entire international community. Every year it is necessary to vaccinate  millions of children around the world and maintain permanent epidemiological surveillance to detect the existence of the virus that could cause outbreaks of the disease.
The IV Illustrious Rotarians Award  this year we celebrate the incredible legacy of Thomas Alba Edison, a prolific American inventor and businessman whose groundbreaking work revolutionized the world. From electric power generation and mass communication to sound recording and motion pictures, Edison’s inventions have shaped the modern era in ways that continue to resonate.
Beyond his monumental contributions to technology and industry, Thomas Edison was also an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Orange, New Jersey. His innovative spirit and relentless pursuit of progress embody the Rotary ideals of service, leadership, and dedication to making a difference in the world.

OBTAINING THE ILLUSTRIOUS ROTARIANS AWARD 2025.

• The Distinguished Rotarians Award is a solidarity diploma, with the purpose of collecting donations for the permanent POLIO+ project of Rotary International that is developed worldwide with the aim of eradicating the Polio disease. Rotary International, with the support of other entities such as UNICEF, is one of the most successful organizations in the fight against Polio and other diseases, in countries in Africa and Asia where outbreaks of wild Polio are still reproducing.

• To obtain your award, you will only have to press the  red donation button «END POLIO NOW«. In the process, you will be able to choose between several amounts to donate  to receive your diploma.
• VERY IMPORTANT.When making the donation, in the section dedicated to data you must put your call sign and an email address to which we will send your award(s) in electronic format so that you can print it.
• Once the donation has been made, you must send us the proof of the donation by email to the address dri@rotaryjerezinternacional.org
• You can receive a award for each band and how it was worked, for this you have to make a donation for each award.
• To the radio amateur who makes the largest donation for a single award, we will present a special prize consisting of a commemorative metope of the contest.
• In case of a tie between several, we will draw the metope among them to see who is the lucky one. The rest of the finalists will receive a special mention as the highest donor of the activity.
• The winner of the metope will receive it by courier at home free of charge.

BASES OF THE RADIO ACTIVITY.

• All radio amateurs from any country in the world with a valid amateur radio license and official call sign may participate.
• The activity will begin at 00:00 UTC on October 18 of the current year and will end at 23:59 UTC on October 26, 2025 and the days between both dates.
• All the bands legally used by the amateur service in Spain may be used, both in HF and in VHF and UHF and in the SSB, CW, FM, FT8, DRM and SSTV modalities.
• The special callsign AO7POLIO will be worked in the multi-operator mode, exclusively by the members of the local section of URE in Cádiz.
• The hours of radio activity in the activation period will be voluntary and at the discretion of the members of URE. In order to adequately disseminate the activity, the time, band and modality in which AO7POLIO is active will be announced, publishing it  on the social networks of URE Cádiz.
• Any participant who has a confirmed contact with the corresponding QSL in any band and modality will be able to obtain a award.
• Each contact made with AO7POLIO will be confirmed by eQSL or via the Bureau with a special QSL of the activity.
• URE Cádiz delivers the special confirmation QSLs and the Jerez International Rotary Club is in charge of granting the awards to the radio amateurs who certify the contact made with the QSL confirmation.
